September 6, 2021 - The US Interagency Wildland Fire Air Quality Response Program Smoke Outlook for the Monument Fire for Monday.
Fire: Hot and dry stable air continues to dominate the forecast area today. Single-digit humidity and temperatures in the mid 90's combine with SW winds to create explosive fire spread conditions. Dense smoke continues to temper fire behavior. Should the smoke clear and winds align with slopes near open perimeters this afternoon, then we can expect fire growth through spotting and high-intensity fire. The Monument fire is 181,617 acres in size. The Knob fire is 2,414 acres and unchanged.
Smoke: A cap of smoke and high elevation inversion and light winds continues to prevent smoke from dispersing from the area. Smoke continues to pool in drainages near wildfires along the 299 highway corridor. Communities near active fires will continue to experience Unhealthy to Very Unhealthy conditions today. Afternoon SW wind will help disperse the smoke. Moderate and USG air quality along the Mendocino coast will linger this morning until SW winds increase late morning into the afternoon. The upper ridge breaks down tomorrow bringing increased instability and strengthening winds. This will help scour smoke and improve air quality for the majority of the forecast area
