SST LTRRE the letter to the editor by Cameron Burley about Climate Change Deniers:  Nothing in the letter sent by the director of the International Climate Science Coalition denies the reality of global climate change.  The website for this group that sent the letter shows that it is a group of reputable scientists who doubt much about Climate Change.  Doubt is not the same as Denial, and is an essential part of modern Science.  I do agree that the source of funding for these doubters should be noted on their website.

For Cameron Burley and others who want to examine the subject in some detail, a recent book by Physicist Richard Muller (U.C. Berkeley) entitled "Energy for Future Presidents" (2012) is a helpful read.  It is available in the Fresno library system and probably can be obtained by inter-library loan.  Muller does not deny Climate Change or that it is caused by human energy use, but he doubts that many of the proposed solutions to it will actually do the job of reversing global warming. In short, he sees fracking for natural gas as a useful but imperfect energy source that should replace burning of coal until something better comes into the picture.  Nuclear has its problems, but new technology has made it safer and less costly-it should not be dropped. Muller states that no matter what we do in the U.S. the main source of CO2 levels at present is China.  I applaud President Obama in his attempt to work with China on this. Alas, I think both major political parties here in the US are more into denial than scientific doubt. We need to start having real debates instead of insult-fests.

I recommend Muller's book to all those who want to examine the many options available to us to help solve this complex problem.
