July 27, 2017 - From soap science to robotics to fiber arts, children and adults can create and experiment all summer long at the Mariposa Library as part of the Library’s Green S.T.E.A.M. Makerspace program. Makerspace workshops will take place every Saturday to August 19.

The fun—which is all free-- begins at 10:00 a.m. with a themed activity and continues at noon with a free movie and popcorn. The public is invited to come to just the morning activity or the movie or bring a lunch and a blanket (for the movie) and spend the whole day.

Each activity follows the overall theme of sustainability and incorporates two or more of the components of S.T.E.A.M. (science, technology, engineering, art and math.)

This Saturday, July 29 you can make and race a solar powered robot—prizes to winners) and watch Wall-E, the animated film about the sad-eyed robot by the same name who finds a new purpose in life when he meets a modern search robot named EVE.

August programs are:

·         August 5—Food Science (milk clay, color changing slime, cornstarch goo) & Oddball
·         August 12—Fun with Fiber (Rag weaving & crochet) & Sing
·         August 19—Recycled toys (CD tops, videotape wands & more) & Trolls

Space is limited and registration is recommended. Register at the Library or call 209-966-2140 during regular Library hours.

For more information about these and other Makerspace programs ask a librarian or email karen.dusek@mariposalibrary.org.

The Green S.T.E.A.M. Makerspace program is supported in whole or in part by the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act, administered in California by the State Librarian.  Local supporters include:  Mariposa Friends of the Library, Mariposa SPCA, STI, and the Mariposa County Landfill and Recycling Center.
