August 4, 2017 - SACRAMENTO – Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. on Thursday issued the following statement regarding the death of U.S. Forest Service Firefighter Brent Witham:

“Anne and I extend our condolences to Firefighter Brent Witham’s family, friends and colleagues in this difficult time. It’s the work of brave firefighters like Brent that keeps our communities safe and we are deeply grateful for his service.”

Witham, 29, of Mentone, died yesterday from injuries he sustained while fighting the Lolo Peak Fire at the Lolo National Forest in Montana. He was a six-year veteran of the U.S. Forest Service and a member of the Vista Grande Hotshot crew stationed at the San Bernardino National Forest since 2015.

In honor of Firefighter Witham, Capitol flags will be flown at half-staff.
