During the partial eclipse (on August 21, 2017) Sierra Foothill Charter School Principal/Superintendent Mindy Bolar brought out students in grades TK-4 a few at a time with safety glasses on to observe the phenomenon. She says it was so neat to hear their gasps and see their smiles when they looked up.

Erika Miranda and Andrea Contreras' fifth through eighth graders came together for a lesson on eclipse science. They then made their own eclipse viewers. Later, they headed outside, a few students at a time, to see the event. Students viewed the eclipse through special eclipse sunglasses, a pinhole projector, projectors made of cereal boxes, and welding masks. They also noticed the eclipse shapes in the reflections of leaves on the ground. Everyone was amazed to see it.
SFCS 01TK student Colin Jensen and kindergarten student Spencer Eastwood show amazement on their faces as they view the eclipse through safety glasses.
SFCS 02Third grader Westley Sheffield and fourth grader Mylee Allen check out the unusual view through safety glasses.
SFCS 03Andrea Contreras (pictured in the background) and Erika Miranda's fifth through eighth grade students work on eclipse viewers as part of a science lesson.
SFCS 04Fifth grader Malaya Shelton waits her turn as sixth grader Jaeyanna Bolar checks out the eclipse through a special viewer.
SFCS 2 2 Wendy Baumann's first and second graders made beautiful eclipse artwork as shown by Madison Michael.
