January 4, 2018 - It’s back!! The ancient Art of Storytelling is returning to the Mariposa Community and Mariposa Schools starting the second weekend of March, 2018. Featured Storytellers will be that powerful and humorous 2015 Storyteller, Anne Rutherford, her equally talented storyteller husband, Norm Brecke, plus dynamic local storyteller, Angela Heiss.

SIG Anne Rutherford 1Organized by the Special Interest Group, Keeping Storytelling in Mariposa Schools, with the fiscal sponsorship of the Mariposa Community Foundation, a Story Slam Competition will be presented at 7:00 p.m., on Friday, March 9, 2018. The venue is the United Methodist Church, 6th and Bullion, in Mariposa.  Story Slam fliers, with the 2018 theme and competition rules, are available at the Mariposa County Library.  Stories will be judged and cash prizes awarded.

On Saturday, March 10, 2018, the SIG will have a Storytelling Family Concert, starting at 7:00 p.m., in the Parish Hall at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, in Mariposa.  Featured Storytellers are Anne Rutherford and her husband, Norm Brecke. from Portland, OR. Anne became an instant Mariposa Favorite when she was in Mariposa in 2015.  She has performed at the National Storytelling Festival and International Storytelling Center in TN, and been featured at the Connecticut Storytelling Festival and the Northwest Tall Tale Festival in OR.  Both Anne and Norm have been featured at the Stone Soup Storytelling Festival, and the Powell Wood Festival in WA.  Local Storyteller, Angela Heiss, featured at the NSN Storytelling Conference in Kansas City, MO, the Tall Tale Festival in Medford, OR, and the Sonora Mother Lode Conference, will open the Family Concert with one of her award-winning stories.

Anne and Norm will be continuing the hugely popular Storytelling in Mariposa Schools Program from Monday, March 12 through Thursday, March 15, at all Mariposa K – 8 Schools.  The couple performs their energetic storytelling and music programs for students in OR and WA schools, and are very excited to help continue this educational program that sparks the imaginations of Mariposa Students.  Storytelling: A Mariposa Tradition!!
