Local Dems to endorse Congressional candidate
January 8, 2018 - The next meeting of the Mariposa Democratic Club will be pivotal in the upcoming congressional race.
Local Democrats are encouraged to attend the meeting on Saturday, January 13 at the Miners Roadhouse at 9:45 a.m. People who are new to the club are being asked to arrive at 9:00 a.m., as well as people who want to order breakfast before the meeting starts.
Regina Bateson, Roza Calderon, and Jessica Morse are running for congress and expect to have their names on the ballot for the June primary. The state Democratic Party is hoping to endorse one of the candidates at their late February convention in San Diego.
Before that, each local Democratic Club within Congressional District CA4 is being asked to endorse a candidate(s). The local club will be voting, by secret written ballot, at the January meeting. Based on membership totals as of last summer, the local club has been given three votes. The voting will be preceded by lively discussion about the candidates.
Earlier in the year each candidate made multiple visits to Mariposa County and spoke to citizens. In early December there was a candidate forum for all three candidates. There was standing room only as people listened to their answers to 20 questions during a 2½ hour forum.
To participate in the voting people need to be registered Democrats as well as members of the Mariposa Democratic Club. Voter registration forms will be available at the door and annual membership dues are $10 for individuals and $15 for families.
Free coffee and water will be available.
This is an opportunity to participate in democracy and help to make your vote count. Everyone who cares about the country and wants to see change happen is encouraged to be at the meeting.
