February 7, 2018 - On February 1, Teena Starchman's first and second graders at Sierra Foothill Charter School gave an enthusiastic performance of the musical, "Flakes!" to the delight of school mates, family, and friends. "Flakes!" from Hal Leonard, by John Jacobson and John Higgins, is a musical celebration of snow, slush, and snirt (what snow is called when it finds itself mixed with dirt). Students depicting snowflakes shimmied, shook, and sang to a number of jazzy songs and a story line about how even though we are similar, we are also all one of a kind.
Student performers included (top row): Keegan Smerber, Rosie Neogy, Darragh Duffy, Jane Adcock, Aidan Beutel-DePrano, Morgan Imrie, Danny Specht, (bottom row) David Barrena, Lucca Petretti-Meek, Westley Sheffield, Noah Eastwood, and Vera Smerber.
