March 13, 2018 - Mariposa County High School issues statement concerning the national school walkout on Wednesday, March 14, 2018 for 17 minutes.
MCHS
It has been brought to MCHS Administration that students may be participating in the national walkout that will occur on Wed 3/14 at 10:00 A.M. for 17 minutes to bring focus and attention to the unnecessary tragedy of the 17 lives lost during the Parkland shooting.

Our top priority is to support the academic and social emotional needs of our students while maintaining a safe and orderly learning environment for all. We respect and support the right of our students to advocate for causes that are important to them and welcome the opportunity to work with any student or student group to discuss appropriate and creative ways to do so while at school.

While we support our students right for peaceful protest we want to make sure our students and their parents are informed.

Students need to stay on campus in a safe location that can be supervised (for their safety) by administration. This safe place will be the front of the school. If students go off campus, MCHS will be unable to supervise them and their safety.
Students need to remain peaceful and respectful of others opinions and choices.
Students leaving campus or who remain out of class for more than 17 minutes will be subject to consequences for truancy.
Students will be responsible for the missed learning opportunities going on in their classes. Classes will continue as normal.

We believe student voice is an important component to our school and community safety. We recently had a community safety forum and we would like to have one with MCHS students. Our goal is to have the forum during school hours so as not to limit student participation and voice. We will be asking students to sign up via a google form if they would like to participate in a forum both to learn about programs offered at MCHS and to share their concerns and ideas and solutions. While we believe MCHS is a safe place, working together we can make it more inclusive and better for all our students. Here is the link to the form. https://goo.gl/forms/ahO8UNjKE2wYRa1s2
