Submissions Sought for Self-Published Author Contest
April 2, 2018 - The Mariposa County Library joins other libraries across the state in announcing the California Library Project, a new contest for authors of self-published young adult and adult fiction.
Winners in each category will receive $500 as well as:
- inclusion in Indie California, a statewide digital collection of local indie authors;
- nationwide exposure for three months on Popup Picks, a mobile media curation service;
- a review in Library Journal, one of America’s oldest and most renowned trade publications for library news.
Each book that is submitted to the contest must be self-published, in the genre of young adult or adult fiction, written by a California resident and available in either PDF or ePUB format. Submissions open Sunday, April 1 and close Saturday, June 30. Work may be submitted at: indieauthorproject.librariesshare.com/California. Judging will be done by a panel of California State librarians.
About 20% of the book market is comprised of indie authors, according to 2016 figures. The Project provides opportunities for librarians to actively engage with and promote new authors. Recognition by librarians increases author credibility and visibility in the expanding indie marketplace.
On-line self-publishing resources are available on the Mariposa County Library website at MariposaLibrary.org. For more information contact Rebecca Adams, 209-966-2140 or Rebecca.adams@mariposalibrary.org.
