May 2, 2018 - Mother Lode Jewish Community has three great events coming up!

MLJC LogoHebrew Cemetery Annual Clean-Up and BBQ
These 2 linked events will take place on Sunday, May 20th.  Beginning at 10:30 A.M., the annual “spring clean-up” of the Sonora Hebrew Cemetery will get underway, followed by a BBQ at a home in Jamestown beginning at 12:00 noon.  Folks are welcome to attend one or both.

Those interested in helping weed and freshen up the historic Jewish Cemetery in the heart of old Sonora are urged to bring weed eaters (if you have one handy), rakes, brooms, hats and work gloves.  Depending on how many volunteers turn out, this annual “spruce-up” takes about an hour and a half.

Starting around 12:00 noon, there will be a casual BBQ in Jamestown, complete with potluck salads and desserts, plenty of kibitzing as well as just plain relaxing and enjoying a great springtime day in our wonderful foothills with friends.

Then on Sunday, June 3rd, “Celebrating Israel” will take place in Columbia.  There will be a potluck Israeli-themed lunch, followed a visual presentation of the beautiful landscapes of Israel by Talila Golan (owner of East Bay Lore) and Gat Savaldi Harrusi. Afterwards, there will be folk dancing led by Israeli dance instructor Rachel Tischler.

For more information about these events, please email the Mother Lode Jewish Community at motherlodejc@yahoo.com, call (209) 533-1650 or check out our website at MotherLodeJewishCommunity.org.

The MLJC’s mission is to provide opportunities and events that nurture a vibrant and enduring Jewish identity, culture and community in the Mother Lode; with members from Amador, Calaveras, Mariposa and Tuolumne counties.  New members and those interested in learning about the MLJC are welcome.  There is no charge to participate in any of these events.
