May 4, 2018 - BISHOP— The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) announced the reopening of the winter closure gate on State Route 120 West, for Friday morning, May 4, 2018 at 8:00 a.m.

Ice, snow, rockfall, roadway repair and debris removal work have been completed on State Route 120W from the winter closure gate to the entrance of Yosemite National Park.

Caltrans District 9 is responsible for roadway conditions on State Route 120 from U.S. Hwy 395 west to the east entrance of Yosemite National Park.

Jamie Richards, Yosemite National Park Ranger and Public Affairs Officer stated today, “Snow removal and road repairs are currently ongoing with no intended date of opening”.

Caltrans reminds drivers to carry chains and to be prepared for all driving conditions.

Eastern Sierra storms can bring unexpected weather.

We recommend carrying blankets, water, food, a shovel, gloves, a flashlight, and sand or kitty litter to provide traction in case your vehicle becomes stuck.

For the latest highway information please visit the Caltrans QuickMap site at quickmap.dot.ca.gov or call the Road Condition Hotline at 1-800-427-ROAD (7623).
