May 6, 2018 - Genealogy: "Land Records, an often overlooked treasure". The experienced genealogists know they are required to prove each ancestor's existence and location by providing "Sources" for each person. Primary sources are certificates of birth, marriage, and death, but going back in time and history many of these sources are not, or were never available. But one source that was legally documented and recorded are land records.
Noted Genealogist Kathy Burrow will be speaking on these records which can be used to trace family, neighbors, moving patterns, marriages, and wealth. Most of the early settlers of the United States came to America for a better life and the opportunity to own their own piece of land. Where you can't find them in other records you might just locate them in the land records. This class takes a look at how to find and use those records.
Merced County Genealogy Society will be holding the class at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, May 19 at the Merced County Library Gracey room, 2100 O Street. The meetings are open to all and no membership is required.
