Voters to Elect Mariposa Superior Court Judge

May 8, 2018 - In June voters will have an opportunity to elect a Mariposa County Superior Court Judge. The choice will be to re-elect Dana Walton, who has been sitting on the bench for 17 years, or elect Ed Johnson, an expert in mediation.

Judge Dana Walton

To help make your selection, the candidates will be presenting their views and answering questions on Saturday, May 12, at 9:45 A.M. at the Miners Inn Roadhouse. Each candidate will be asked to give a two-minute statement and then audience members can ask questions, with the exception of anything regarding a case currently before the courts.

Walton (pictured left) is a lifelong Mariposan and was a local attorney before becoming a judge. According to his campaign material, some of his accomplishments include modernization of the rural court, leadership in establishing the CASA program for neglected and abused children appearing before the courts, and being a lead in an establishment of a court self-help center. Walton has been endorsed by Sheriff Binnewies and Superior Court Judge Mike Fagalde.

Ed Johnson at work Johnson (pictured right) has lived in the community for 24 years. According to his website, he has had a mediation and conflict resolution business for many years. He has been a consultant for courts in other counties and has been a Judge Pro Tem for the Fresno Superior Court. He was Valedictorian of his class at San Joaquin College of Law. Johnson says he wants to increase access to court, offer more services to resolve disputes and apply principles that put victims and community first.

Free coffee and water will be available. If you would like to order breakfast for yourself, please arrive at 9:00 A.M.

This community event is being sponsored by the Mariposa Democratic Club and is open to the public.

After the presentation there will be a short business meeting for the club, followed by a meeting of the Mariposa Democratic Central Committee.
