May 29, 2018 - Mariposa-Effective Friday, June 1, 2018 at 8:00 A.M., the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) Madera-Mariposa-Merced Unit will suspended all burning below the 4,000-foot elevation in Madera and Mariposa County.  Open burning is allowed above the 4,000 elevation with valid permits only.  

Residents need to contact the burn day information line, in their county, prior to burning.

Madera County Burn Day Information Line: 877-HAZ-BURN (877-429-2876)

Mariposa County Burn Day Information Line: (209) 966-1200.  For residents burning above the 4,000 foot elevation, citations will be issued if burning is conducted outside the perimeters of the burn permit.  Residents will be held liable for any fire that escapes control.

Burn piles must be no bigger than 4x4 foot in size.  A water source and a tool must be available at the burn location and a responsible adult in attendance at all times.  Scrape the area around the burn pile down to bare mineral soil and DO NOT burn on windy days.
