Mariposa County Resource Conservation District has Seeds!

California Native plant seeds have arrived!  The Mariposa County Resource Conservation District (MCRCD) has received its annual order and the seeds are ready for your garden.  MCRCD has a bonus available this year; Narrow Leaf Milkweed, Asclepias fascicularis which is a vital part of the Monarch butterfly’s life cycle.  By ingesting the leaves of this plant in the caterpillar stage, the Monarch caterpillar tastes acidic to predators, thereby having a better chance of survival for this beautiful traveler. Narrow Leaf Milkweed seeds are sold for $10 per ¼ ounce with approximately 1,000 seeds per bag.

The California Native Poppy seeds are available in ½ pound bags for $14 and the Wildflower Mix at $20 per ½ pound bag.  The optimal time to plant the California native seeds are in the fall after a good rain.  Be sure to rake away any possible competing weeds or grasses and take measures to prevent feeding the seeds to the birds for improved results.

Please visit MCRCD at 5039 Fairgrounds Road, Mariposa, CA 95338 (2nd building on the left) or call Rosalyn Allison at (209) 966-3431 for questions. Flower photos can be seen on our website: www.mcrcd.net. We accept cash or checks made payable to MCRCD.
