June 28, 2018 - Caltrans crews and construction partners are closing in on the homestretch of repair work on northbound and southbound State Route 49 (SR-49) between Bear Valley Road and SR-132 in Mariposa County.
This 15-mile stretch of roadway was devastated by a violent storm on March 22, 2018 and suffered a washout and severe erosion on the road and shoulders.
Crews are rebuilding the foundation of the road and the slopes leading up to the shoulders from the ground up; replacing the devastated drainage system with new metal pipes and backfilling around them with concrete and preparing for eventual paving and striping.
This section of SR-49 should be open again by Wednesday, August 1, 2018.
Please keep in mind that during the closure, motorists should expect an extra hour of travel time in this vicinity.
