July 2, 2018 - The next weekend of the free Summer Concert Series, Music on the Green - brought to you by The Mariposa Co. Arts Council and its many fine sponsors – at The Art Park in historic downtown Mariposa CA, features two homegrown groups: The Jespersons (in full-band form) on Friday, July 6 and the Country Western sounds of K.A. Country on Saturday, July 7.

The Jespersons The Jespersons on Friday, July 6

Performing original Neo/World Folk Americana music, The Jespersons as a core duo, sing and play in an intimate, vocal/string style that has impressed widespread for several years now. Born in New Zealand and raised in Australia, Kay further developed her distinctive vocals and cello playing locally. She and multi-instrumentalist husband Jared (an Orange County transplant) are adding extra members to create a full band experience for this performance. Songs and stories are shared with the audience that make the experience fun for the whole family in a folky, community way.

KACountryTomPhillips K.A. Country on Saturday, July 7

The “K” stands for “Kick” and the “A” stands for ..... Well, one of the constants on the music scene in Mariposa over the years has been historian and musician, Tom Phillips, who has played guitar, bass and pedal-steel in some configuration of a band - Country or otherwise - for decades, locally and out-of-county. Nothing makes “old-school” Country Western sound more authentic than the chiming belltones of the pedal-steel guitar (Phillips’ specialty) or the “Floyd Cramer” style, honky-tonk piano played by Dan Croft, a member of the current line-up of the group. Some special guests from past versions of this group, and other historic local C&W singers & musicians might be stopping by to sit-in as well.

Visit MariposaArtsCouncil.org for the complete 2018 season line-up (see below) & more.

All performances begin at 7 p.m. (unless otherwise noted) at the Mariposa County Art Park, located on Hwy. 140, between 4th and 5th Streets, in historic downtown Mariposa, CA. Free parking on 5th Street along the Creek Walkway to the Park, also providing handicapped access.

The shows are free to the public – tips for the performers will be solicited, encouraged, and appreciated.
