July 6, 2018 - Anyone aged 9 and older is invited to come to the Mariposa Library on Saturday, July 14 to make dresses and pants for the Little Dresses for Africa Project. All levels of ability, from beginner to advanced, are welcome. Fabric and other supplies, including sewing machines, will be provided.  The program will take place from 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 noon in the community room.

Little Dresses for Africa is a non-profit organization founded in 2008 that gives simple dresses to girls and pants to boys to let them know that “they are worthy.” From that jumping-off point, the group then provides education about clean water, sanitation and family skills. For more details about their work, go to www.littledressesforafrica.org.

This workshop is part of the Library’s Green S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) Makerspace program. Summer Makerspace workshops are offered free of charge on the first, third and last Thursday of the month from 3:00 P.M. to 4:30 P.M. and the second and fourth Saturday from 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 noon.  Upcoming programs include: CD Art on Thursday, July 19; computer programming using Arduino kits on Saturday, July 28 (teens and adults); self-publishing using free links on the Library website on Thursday, August 2 (teens and adults); mosaic tile coasters or light switch plates on Saturday, August 11; fingerprint art and science on Thursday, August 16; paper flowers on Saturday, August 25 and beginning crocheting on Thursday, August 30 (ages 9 through adult).
