Sonora, Calif., (November 2014)… The public is invited to attend the Stanislaus National Forest, Artist in the Woods 2014 -- Twig Sculpture Workshop Saturday, November 15 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Dodge Ridge Ski Resort on the Summit Ranger District.

Artist in the Woods is an annual program sponsored by the Forest and the 3 Forest Interpretative Association (3FIA) where artists compete for consideration to have their Stanislaus National Forest, inspired art publicly featured.

Artists who are selected stay in a historic cabin on the Summit Ranger District for two weeks during the fall. Participating artists donate an original piece of artwork or a performance that is representative of their stay on the Forest and conduct a workshop instructing the public in their discipline.

Participants will have the opportunity to explore an area on the forest to gather natural materials in preparation for the sculpture phase at Dodge Ridge. All gathered material will be used to create a structure form and expressive images by bending, shaping, and manipulating twigs and branches.

The Twig Sculpture Workshop will begin at 10 a.m. at the Summit Ranger Station on Hwy 108 and Pinecrest Lake Rd. Students will travel out on the forest to a site selected by the artist and U.S. Forest Service fire personnel, and then create sculptures indoors at Dodge Ridge Ski Resort.  Participants are asked to wear comfortable clothes, suitable for hiking and working.

All levels of experience and skill are welcome at the Twig Sculpture Workshop. The cost for the workshop will be $50 to the 3 Forests Interpretive Association. To register go to: http://www.shop.3forests.us/ or call Marie Malo for more information at 209-965-3434 ext. 5343.
