Special Statement
The San Joaquin Valley APCD has an Air Quality Alert for the foothills and mountains of Stanislaus, Merced, Madera, Fresno, and Tulare counties due to continuing smoke impacts from the Ferguson fire. Fire
The Ferguson Fire showed some growth after lifting of the inversion on Monday, encountering receptive fuel and warm dry conditions. Early smoke trapped under inversion slowed development of slope winds to mid-afternoon. Additional growth is expected Tuesday due to critical firing and natural spread.
Smoke
Strong nightly inversions will persist well into afternoon. Modeled smoke movement brings smoke slowly upriver and valley drainages with movement east to northeast during the afternoon. Smoke reverses course at night with the developing inversion and topographic drainage to lower elevations and foothills, with only limited improvement at higher elevations. This pattern is forecast to continue.
