Special Statement
This forecast is focused on smoke behavior around Yosemite National Park. A regional smoke forecast is also available for today: tools.airfire.gov/outlooks/SouthernSierra
Fire
Crews are establishing the containment perimeter overnight and will continue to do so throughout the day today. Moderate growth is expected for today with increased firing when in the late afternoon. Currently, the fire is at 56,659 acres and remains 30% contained.
Smoke
This morning, foothill communities are seeing much of the smoke that impacted the Yosemite Area area yesterday - lifting of the inversion will bring some relief by midday. Late afternoon up canyon winds will carry smoke to the higher elevation areas, which will again flow down into the drainages at night. Without any change in the high pressure system over the Sierra Nevada, this trend will likely continue through Wednesday.
Other
This air quality forecast reflects Particulate Matter - not Ozone.
