August 1, 2018 - Washington—Senate Judiciary Committee Ranking Member Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) on Tuesday released the following statement on Facebook’s decision to delete accounts engaging in election interference:

Dianne Feinstein   “Today’s move by Facebook to delete 32 pages and accounts is important.

“First, it shows that Russia and other outside actors continue to weaponize social media platforms to foment chaos and sow discord within the United States.

“More than 290,000 accounts followed at least one of the pages that were removed today. Those 32 pages and accounts created at least 9,500 posts and 30 events, including one real protest that was scheduled to take place in Washington next month.

“And second, it shows that there’s more work to be done by social media platforms to counter Russia’s foreign influence campaign and election interference. These ongoing attacks against our democratic institutions can’t be allowed to continue.”
