Special Statement
This forecast is focused on smoke behavior around Yosemite National Park. A regional smoke forecast is also available for today: tools.airfire.gov/outlooks/SouthernSierra This air quality forecast reflects Particulate Matter - not Ozone.
Fire
The fire grew 5000 acres and is now 39% contained. Crews added depth to the perimeter of the planned containment lines and an area near El Portal also burned 2000 acres releasing heavy smoke in the area. A more active fire is possible today with the inversion lifting earlier in the day.
Smoke
Heavy smoke flowed towards the Tuolumne River and over several of our sites to the north of Yosemite. That area is likely to continue to produce more smoke today - please be advised Hazardous air quality is likely in these areas again this morning. Foothill communities are seeing improved air quality this morning than they have seen over the last several days.
