An Air Quality Alert is in effect for San Joaquin, Mariposa, Stanislaus, Merced, Madera, Fresno, Kings, Tulare, Tuolumne and Kern counties. Stage 2 air advisory is in effect for Inyo & Mono counties. Fire 
Significant instability and high-level winds from the west pushed active fire edges with periods of extreme fire behavior and hot embers falling from the smoke column as far as 1/2 mile. Similar conditions today are expected to cause increased fire activity on all three (Donnell, Ferguson, Lions) fires. As higher winds arrive in the afternoon, areas of wind and slope alignment will have the potential for extreme fire behavior.

Smoke 
Lingering smoke from yesterday's activity is unlikely to lift until late afternoon when the lifting inversion allows for an increase in fire activity. The increase in activity and arrival of westerly winds will shift the movement of regional smoke from a northerly dispersion to the east. The smoke will follow all drainages from the San Joaquin Valley to the Owens Valley. Expect heavy smoke pooling again in the evening.
