August 6, 2018 - MARIPOSA COUNTY – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) has closed eastbound and westbound State Route 140 (SR-140) for approximately 21 miles from the end of the climbing lane to the Yosemite National Park entrance.
According to Cal Fire, the fire had surpassed 91,500 acres at 38 percent containment as of the morning of Monday, August 6, 2018. There is not yet an estimated time of opening for this stretch of SR-140.
Yosemite announced earlier this week that Yosemite Valley, Wawona Road, the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias, the Merced Grove of Giant Sequoias, Hetch Hetchy, and other areas will remain closed indefinitely to all visitors. Yosemite Valley employees and residents have been evacuated due to firefighter activity along roadways, and road hazards. Tioga Road and Tuolumne Meadows are open and accessible from the east (U.S. Route 395).
The SR-41 (Mariposa County) and SR-120 (Tuolumne County) entrances to Yosemite are also closed with no estimated time of opening.
