August 16, 2018 - Ferris Wheels, Animals and lots of Fun!  Yes, it is time once again for the Mariposa County Fair and the 4-H members from around the county are getting their animals ready for show, entering items from the many 4-H projects like sewing, cooking, crafts, and more.  Members are anticipating what ribbon they will earn for their hard work they have done all year.

While you are at the fair this year, please take some time to look at all the 4-H youth projects in the Junior Exhibit Hall and in the livestock area.  You will be surprised what a great job these young people can do!  These members have gained a great life experience which will help them as they become responsible adults.  We thank all the 4-H projects leaders for their mentorship to our youth!

Our 4-H Junior Master Gardeners will have a hands-on activity each day outside the Horticulture Building D from 1:00 P.M. - 2:00 P.M.  The Master Gardeners will also have daily activities for all ages.  Come by and look!

4-H Livestock Judging competition will be held on Sunday, September 2 at 9:00 A.M. in the Sheep/Swine barn and poultry barn.   Come and watch the members show various livestock.  Also, on Sunday at 3:00 P.M. will be the Junior Livestock Auction in the Strathern Pavilion.  Maybe you would like to bid on an animal for your family.

If you have a hobby or talent that you would like to share with our youth, become a 4-H leader.  To become a leader, you need to be at least 18 years of age, complete an interest survey, enroll, do online trainings, do a DOJ livescan, and be approved by the county director.   4-H is just not animals!  Some projects of interest for our youth are welding, fishing, forestry, woodworking, biking, small engines, automotive, hiking or if you have other special interests that youth would enjoy give 4-H Staff a call at (209) 966-4829. 

Mariposa County 4-H has 6 clubs and one SPIN club:  Bootjack 49ers (Lutheran Church), Catheys Valley (McCay Hall), Don Pedro Rattlers (Don Pedro Elementary), Hornitos (Stag Hall), Triangle (Grace Church), and Clover Pioneers (St. Joseph Catholic Church) and an Afterschool SPIN club at El Portal Elementary.  We hope to have a new club in Greeley Hill area this year.  If you are interested on becoming a club leader for this club, please contact the 4-H Office.

4-H is fun, and it is educational!  The new 4-H year in Mariposa County will begin October 1.  If your children, ages 5-19, would like to join a youth program with interesting projects, camps and conferences or if you are interested on becoming a 4-H volunteer leader, come by the 4-H Booth at the Mariposa County Fair or contact the 4-H office at (209) 966-4829 for further details.  The enrollment fee the 2018-19 year is $21 per adult and $54 per youth.  Enrollment deadlines are for current 4-H members, November 1, 2018 and NEW 4-H members December 15, 2018.  Enrollments can be taken at the office or enroll and pay online at ca.4honline.com and can pay by credit card at https://ucanr.edu/survey/survey.cfm?surveynumber=21323.
