On Saturday, August 25 from 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 noon, Nancy Francis will teach the art of making decorative flowers (see flyer below) from colored tissue paper and coffee filters. All ages are welcome. Children 10 and younger must be accompanied by an adult.

The following Thursday, August 30 from 3:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M., anyone aged nine and older is invited to crochet an afghan square (see flyer below) for the Warm Up America project (WarmUpAmerica.org), which gives blankets to the needy throughout the U.S.. All skill levels are welcome, from beginner to experienced. Basic stitches will be taught.

Kids and adults, alike, can try their hand at making a puppet from used materials on Thursday, September 13 from 3:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M.  This workshop is open to all ages, but children 10 and younger must be accompanied by an adult.

The computer programming workshop that was postponed due to the Ferguson Fire has been rescheduled to Saturday, September 22 from 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 noon. Shaun Flanagan, a UC Merced engineering student, will teach the program (see flyer below) using Arduino kits. This activity is open to teens and adults.

Who knew there were so many ways to fold a piece of paper into a plane that actually flies? Let your imagination soar on Thursday, September 27 and create a paper plane to compete against the other participants. Winners will walk away with a prize, as well as a plane. The workshop runs from 3:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M.

Be sure to visit the Library makerspace booth at the annual ICES Children’s Fair in Mariposa Park on Saturday, September 29, where you can create a colorful button to wear that makes a unique statement about yourself.

The Green S.T.E.A.M. Makerspace program was made possible through a Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) grant administered by the California State Library. Makerspace supporters include STI and the Friends of the Mariposa Library. The program focuses on sustainability, promoting resource reduction, reuse and recycling, as well as low-impact technology.
