August 22, 2018 - Washington—Senate Judiciary Committee Ranking Member Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) on Tuesday released the following statement on Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh’s views on Roe v. Wade:

Dianne Feinstein“Brett Kavanaugh’s statement that Roe v. Wade is ‘settled law’ shouldn’t assuage anyone’s concern that he would vote to gut or overturn Roe. Chief Justice John Roberts made the same statement in 2005. Nonetheless, in 2016 he voted to uphold a Texas law that would have gutted the standard in Planned Parenthood v. Casey barring the state from imposing an ‘undue burden’ on women seeking abortion care.

“That Texas law would have imposed medically-unnecessary requirements on clinics for the sole purpose of bankrupting them and forcing them to close. If John Roberts had been in the majority in this case, 75 percent of clinics in Texas would have closed. In effect, Texas would have been sent back to the days before Roe v. Wade, and the women of this country have come too far to go back.
