Wildfire Impacts July 2018 Visitation to Yosemite National Park - Declines 23% Year Over Year

September 12, 2018 – Yosemite National Park total recreation visitors for July 2018 was down 23% over July 2017 mainly due to fires in Yosemite and the surrounding areas.
The Arch Rock Entrance Station (Mariposa -Highway 140) July 2018 visitors by auto was down 62.3% compared to July 2017.
The Big Oak Flat Entrance Station (Groveland - Highway 120) July 2018 visitors by auto was up 4.8% compared to July 2017.
The South Entrance (Oakhurst - Highway 41) July 2018 visitors by auto was down 25.2% compared to July 2017.
The Tioga Pass Entrance July 2018 visitors by auto was up .1% compared to July 2017.
Tioga Pass opened during late May in 2018. In 2017 Tioga Pass opened on June 29, 2017 due to clearing of heavy winter snows.
Park Comments:
The park was impacted by the Ferguson fire which burned outside and inside park boundaries. Highway 140/Arch Rock entrance was closed beginning July 14, 2018 for the remainder of the month.
On July 25, 2018 Hwy 41/South Entrance closed for the remainder of the month.
