November 26, 2014 - SACRAMENTO – State legislators, concerned about the impact of the impending 16-76 cent per gallon increase in the cost of fuel, will discuss their support for the “Affordable Gas for California Families Act,” which would eliminate the cap-and-trade gas tax.

Legislation is expected to be introduced in both houses on December 1 by Assemblyman Jim Patterson (R-Fresno) and Senator Andy Vidak (R-Hanford) to exempt transportation fuels including natural gas from inclusion in the state’s cap-and-trade program -- saving consumers from the anticipated increase in gas prices when distributors inevitably begin passing on the cap-and-trade costs to consumers.

“We’re all enjoying the lowest gas prices in years but when the gas tax hike kicks in, we will feel the pinch at every level of our economy and we know that low-income families will be hit hardest,” Assemblyman Patterson said. “From the dining room table to our favorite restaurant, even the gas budgets at our school districts will be impacted, which means less money goes towards educating our kids. Let’s keep gas prices low by eliminating the gas tax hike.”

"This unfair tax will be devastating to California's most vulnerable families and must be stopped," said Senator Vidak.

The bills will be introduced after Assembly and Senate swearing-in ceremonies.
