Prior to the event, students solicited flat donations or per lap pledges from family, friends, and community members. As incentive, students who received at least three pledges had their names entered in a drawing for a $25 gift card. The students who walked/jogged the most laps in their age category will soon receive $25 gift cards. And the top dollar earning class will receive a popcorn and movie party in their classroom.
SFCS students participated in a Jog-a-thon fundraiser at Catheys Valley Park. Here are Panacea Brown, Malaya Shelton, Andrayah Collins, Patrick Cleary, Wyatt Brouillette, and Wyndham Evans make their way around the track.
On the day of the event, students were bused to the park a few classrooms at a time. They spent a while stretching before the start of the event.
Students had tally cards pinned to their backs. Teachers and aides were stationed in various places around the field. As students completed laps, they'd stop at their teacher or aide and have the lap marked on their cards. This was a quick and efficient way to keep track.
Teacher Wendy Baumann and Aide Cate Cannon put tally marks on students cards, signifying the completion of another lap, before students take off around the track again.
Students ran laps as they could, walked when they needed to slow down, took breaks on occasion, and drank lots of water.
Lillan Engstrom takes a water break with some of her schoolmates.
At the end, students met up with their teachers and aides to have their lap cards removed and wait their turn for a snack.
After their tally cards were removed, students enjoyed orange slices and granola bars.
The school is in the process of counting up tally marks and identifying winners for various categories. Students will soon receive back their pledge sheets so that they may begin collecting pledges and donations. These are due November 12. If you did not make a pledge but would like to donate to the fundraiser, you may do so by going to Donate page on the school website, SierraFoothillCharterSchool.org, and using a credit card or by sending a check made out to SFCS to 4952 School House Road, Catheys Valley, CA 95306.
SFCS wishes to extend thank yous to parent volunteer Jon-Paul Salonen who DJ'd the event, providing great music that kept the students motivated and moving; all the staff and volunteers who were at the event giving out water and doing other tasks; and to everyone who pledged. The school appreciates everyone's support.
