Pastors Corner

November 22, 2018 - Sunday is over, and Monday starts. The alarm wakes you up and you start your day. You go through your morning routine and thus begin the day which is farthest from next Sunday. By the time that Sunday comes, the week has taken its toll. You have found yourself breaking the law of God and the weight of sin pulls you down.

The message that we need to hear on Sunday above anything else is the message of the finished work of Christ and how through his sacrificial blood, his death, he redeems his people. Ephesians 1:7 reads, “In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace,”. This message does not ignore the weight around your neck. The Gospel tells you that Christ takes all of your burden. He comforts you in your misery. The words of a certain hymn ring true, “In every high and stormy gale, my anchor holds within the veil.”Elder Wynter Sturtevant

This is why worship on the Lord’s Day is so important. We are told throughout the week, both inside and outside, that Christ is not enough and that we need to earn our salvation. Man-made theology of glory creeps in and hides very well in our thought. The theology of the cross tells the believer that Christ paid it all. The interaction between the Gospel and the believer is not merely a one-time. That is to say that there is never a time where the Christian no longer needs to hear the Gospel. We need to be constantly reminded that by the work of Christ Jesus, we are forgiven.
