Pastors Corner

November 29, 2018 - As we press on in the holiday season, many will be talking about, preaching on, and watching something that acts out the birth of Jesus. There will be a flurry of entertainment and art that you’ll be hit with. So many pictures of a baby lying in a manger. The question that must come to our minds is, “why does this matter?” Why does the birth of Jesus matter to us today? This is where we start to get into uncomfortable conversations that many wish to avoid. I simply ask you the reader, why do you think that this is important?Elder Wynter Sturtevant

Historically orthodox Christians have believed that the importance relies on who Jesus is as well as what Jesus has done. Galatians 4:4-5 reads, “But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons.” We believe that Jesus is not just a man but is the God-man who redeems those who have transgressed against the law of God (which all have done). It is Jesus Christ that takes our iniquities and covers them, deeming us righteous. When we look at the baby Jesus. We see the fulfillment of Old Testament prophecy and the birth of he who saves. It is this gift of grace which we should be thankful for and we find joy in every Sunday. It is the gift that centers on the Gospel truth that through Christ, you are forgiven.
