December 7, 2018 - SACRAMENTO - As communities begin to recover from the devastating effects of the California wildfires, the Secretary of State has announced a new web portal with BizDis banner6information and important resources for impacted businesses. A dedicated email has also been set up to provide fire victims with expedited service from Secretary of State staff.

Click here to visit the new web portal.

“We are here to help,” California Secretary of State Alex Padilla said. “Our Business Programs Division staff is prepared to streamline recovery efforts when Californians are ready to re-establish business operations. To assist all impacted businesses to maintain operations or reopen for business, we have established BizDisasterAssistance.sos.ca.gov with helpful resources and information. We are in this together and we’ll recover together. The Secretary of State’s office is here to help ensure that California remains open for business.”

Maintaining or re-establishing a business can be a daunting task if business records, insurance and employment documents, personal identification and other business records are lost, damaged, or destroyed. Additionally, there may be consequences if legal and other notices are not delivered to the business. The first stop when starting any business in California is the Secretary of State’s office. The agency oversees business filings and provides public access to business records.

Other federal and state agencies providing resources for impacted businesses can be found at the BizDisasterAssistance.sos.ca.gov website.

If fire victims need certified copies or copies of filings that are not available online, records can be obtained by sending a request by email to BizDisasterAssistance@sos.ca.gov
