December 8, 2018 - When a couple decides to consider adoption, they start the journey with their own pre-conceived notions of what it will look like. What many do not realize is that there is a whole process to adoption. It might be a shock to you but there is no Adopt-R-Us store where you can walk in, pull a child off the shelf and go to the check-out counter.
I would like to point again to Galatians 4:4-6 which reads, “But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons. And because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!”
I bring these verses up again because they show that according to the will of God there was a process that needed to take place before we might receive adoption. That process has at the center of it the Son of God who is Jesus. While some might be put off by the work placed before them in regards to adoption, God did not shy away but kept his promise that he made to his people. It was not by signing certain documents nor by silver and gold but by the blood of the lamb Jesus Christ that we are redeemed. Through him we are adopted sons and daughters, adopted brothers and sisters. That is the hope that is offered to those who have faith in him. We can also take comfort knowing that through Christ, we are forgiven. Amen.
