December 16, 2018 - SACRAMENTO – California Attorney General Xavier Becerra issued the following statement regarding on Friday’s decision from the U.S. District Court for the xavier becerra california attorney generalNorthern District of California in State of California, et al. v. Ross, et al. to deny the Trump Administration’s attempt to block a lawsuit challenging the citizenship question on the 2020 Census. With today’s decision, Attorney General Becerra’s lawsuit against the Trump Administration will go to trial in January:

“Today’s ruling allows us to move forward in our fight to ensure a fair and accurate 2020 Census,” said Attorney General Becerra. “President Trump’s unconstitutional decision to add a citizenship question to the 2020 Census goes against the spirit and purpose of a nonpartisan census process. Across the nation, the Census count helps determine the resources needed to build stronger, safer, more prosperous communities. We have much at stake, including the vital services that our communities rely on every day: schools, roads, public transportation, and crucial resources for health and safety. We will ardently defend the right of Californians to participate without fear in a fair and accurate 2020 Census.”
