Yosemite to Kings Canyon

December 23, 2018 - The National Weather Service Hanford Office reports a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect starting Christmas Eve and continuing through the morning hours of Christmas Day.

Travel could be very difficult in some areas.

Those who are in the mountains should be prepared for long delays and possible road closures at or above elevations of 6000 feet.

If traveling consider alternate plans, remember to carry tire chains, extra food, water, and clothing.

Campers and hikers should be prepared for hazardous winter-like conditions. For information on road conditions, including possible closures or delays, call Caltrans at 1-800-427-7623 or visit http://www.dot.ca.gov/cgi-bin/roads.cgi.

...WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 5 PM MONDAY TO 10 AM
PST TUESDAY...

* WHAT...Snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 6 to 12 inches
  expected above 6,000 feet. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph.

* WHERE...Sierra Nevada from Yosemite to Kings Canyon.

* WHEN...From 5 PM Monday to 10 AM PST Christmas Day.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Plan on slippery road conditions. The
  hazardous conditions will impact travel. Gusty winds could
  bring down tree branches.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Winter Weather Advisory for snow means periods of snow will
cause primarily travel difficulties. Expect snow covered roads
and limited visibilities, and use caution while driving.
