December 27, 2018 - The National Weather Service in Hanford has issued a Hard Freeze Watch for the Central and Southern San Joaquin Valley starting from around 3:00 A.M. on Saturday (or late Friday night).

The Freeze Watch will remain in effect until close to 9:00 A.M. Saturday morning, December 29, 2018.

Rural areas will feel the coldest temperatures down to around 28 degrees while urban areas will feel conditions just above freezing.

Durations below 32 degrees may last up to 6 hours while conditions near 28 degrees may only last an hour or 2 hours.

Take cautions to protect exposed garden plants and pipes.

The freezing temperatures will also be a threat to pets and livestock.

* TEMPERATURES...Minimum temperatures of 28 to 32 in most rural
  areas. Urban areas will have lows in the lower to mid 30s.

* TIMING...Late Friday night through Saturday morning.

* IMPACTS...Long duration below freezing will kill unprotected
  vegetation. Exposed water pipes could burst. Pets and livestock
  feel the cold as well.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Hard Freeze Watch means sub-freezing temperatures are possible.
These conditions could kill crops and other sensitive vegetation.
