Pastors Corner

January 2, 2019 - The discussion of purpose can be challenging. Many live day to day without even considering what is their purpose in life. I’m sure we are quick to ask what was the purpose of the actions done to us, but it takes a lot for us to think about our own actions. It takes, I would think, humility to perform a “self-check” and turn the mirror on ourselves.Elder Wynter Sturtevant

For Christians, this mirroring is one of the uses of the Law, those commands given by God (think 10 Commandments). The Law reflects God’s righteousness as well as our own sinfulness. We cannot look at Leviticus and say to ourselves that we achieve our own holiness. You might as well save time in the future for another crisis point. Instead of clinging to the Law, cling to he who was able to hold to the whole of the Law and save us.

In the beginning of Ephesians 3, Paul is describing how the Gentiles are fellow heirs to the gift of God’s grace. He writes about how he was made a minister to preach to the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ. Paul then says in verse 11, “This was according to the eternal purpose that he [God] has realized in Christ Jesus our Lord,”

Christians may you find comfort in this and those who do not believe may you one day see. It was according to God’s purpose to send Christ. Through Christ you are forgiven.
