Coalition of fourteen AGs protects access to birth control under the ACA and prevents implementation of rules set to go into effect on January 14, 2019 in their states

January 14, 2019 - SACRAMENTO – California Attorney General Xavier Becerra issued the following statement yesterday after successfully leading fourteen Attorneys General in Birthcontrol credit govsecuring a preliminary injunction in State of California, et al v. Alex Azar, II, et al. The preliminary injunction blocks the Trump Administration’s attempt to deny millions of women and their families access to cost-free birth control guaranteed by the Affordable Care Act by allowing employers to interfere with their healthcare decisions.

“The law couldn’t be clearer – employers have no business interfering in women’s healthcare decisions,” said Attorney General Becerra. “Today’s court ruling stops another attempt by the Trump Administration to trample on women’s access to basic reproductive care. It’s 2019, yet the Trump Administration is still trying to roll back women’s rights. Our coalition will continue to fight to ensure women have access to the reproductive healthcare they are guaranteed under the law.”

Attorney General Becerra led a coalition of attorneys general from: Connecticut, Delaware, Hawai’i, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New York, North Carolina, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, and the District of Columbia.
