Update: January 16, 2019 - A storm system will bring the potential for heavy rain and an increased threat of flash flooding in the Sierra foothills and the Sierra Nevada below 7,000 feet Wednesday evening into Thursday evening. Heavy rainfall in these areas could cause rock slides, mud slides and debris flows, especially in the vicinity of the Ferguson, Railroad and Pier burn scars. Some roads may become impassable or close. Residents in flood prone areas should stay alert for updates from the NWS. If a Flash Flood Warning is issued for your area, be prepared to evacuate!
January 15, 2019 - The National Weather Service Hanford Office reports heavy rain will lead to an increased threat of flash flooding in the Sierra foothills and Sierra Nevada below 7,000 feet Wednesday evening into Thursday evening.

The Flash Flood Watch is now in effect for * A portion of central California, including the following areas, Mariposa, Madera, and Fresno County Foothills, Sierra Nevada from Yosemite to Kings Canyon, Tulare County Foothills, and Tulare County Mountains. These areas now include elevations up to 7,000 feet. * From Wednesday afternoon through Thursday evening * Heavy rain totaling 2 to 4 inches may lead to excessive runoff, rising water levels on area rivers and streams and a threat of flash flooding. Additionally, mud slides, rock slides and debris flows are possible in some locations, especially in the vicinity of the Ferguson, Railroad and Pier burn scars. Some roads may become closed, impassable, or washed out. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. You should monitor National Weather Forecasts and be prepared to move to a safe location should Flash Flood Warnings be issued. If you live in a flood prone area, this would be a good time to review an emergency escape plan in the event high water or a debris flow threatens your home.
