February 14, 2019 - Jerry Wagner from Red Tail Ridge Technical Services will return on Thursday, February 28 to teach the first of a series of free computer classes for adults aged 18 and older at the Mariposa Library. The classes will take place on the first and last Thursday of the month from 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m. in the Library’s community room. Space is limited and preregistration is required.

Instruction through May will be directed toward the use of PCs.  If there is enough interest, classes on the use of Apple computers will be offered later in the year.

Topics and the date they will be presented are as follows:

  • February 28—Basics of computing (desktop computers)—Learn how a computer works so you can make it work for you, including maintenance and what to look for when something goes wrong.
  • March 7—Basics of computing (Laptops) See above
  • March 28 & April 4—Organizing data efficiently—backing up data, installing and setting up programs
  • April 25 & May 9—How to set up an internal network—including working with a printer and file sharing
  • May 30 & June 6—Internet Use—understanding browsers, search engine, the Cloud, etc., how to use the Internet safely and securely.

Free computer classes are just one component of the Mariposa Library Adult Literacy program, which also offers free one-to-one tutoring in reading, writing and math; preparation for the GED or other high school equivalency exam; computer skills; English as a second language; preparation for the citizenship test, and more for anyone aged 16 and older not enrolled in high school.
