February 20, 2019 –  Yosemite National Park total recreation visitors for 2018 were down 7.6% compared to 2017.
Yosemite had 4,009,436 recreation visitors in 2018 compared to 4,336,889 recreation visitors in 2017.

The Arch Rock Entrance Station (Mariposa - Highway 140)  had a decrease of visitors by auto of 32% compared to 2017.
December 2018 visitors by auto was up 14.0% compared to December 2017.

The Big Oak Flat Entrance Station (Groveland - Highway 120) had an increase of visitors by auto of 3.4% compared to 2017. 
December 2018 visitors by auto was up 80.2% compared to December 2017. 

The South Entrance (Oakhurst - Highway 41) had a decrease of visitors by auto of 3.6% compared to 2017.
December 2018 visitors by auto was up 362.6% compared to December 2017.

The East Entrance (Tioga Pass) had an increase of visitors by auto of 28.5% compared to 2017. 
The Tioga Pass Entrance was closed due to snow during December.

Total recreation visitors for December 2018 was up 171.9% over December 2017.

Possible reasons for the decrease in visitors this year were fires that were burning in the area of the entrances, some entrances being closed periodically due to rock slides and collapsing of roads.
