February 24, 2019 - The Lake Don Pedro Community Services District (LDPCSD) has for many years seen an increase in the number of water leaks occurring in the water service pipes that connect Service Line Inthe District water mains to customer's water meters.  Most every time you see water seeping up through the road (when its not raining!) in Don Pedro, it is because one of these small, black plastic pipes has sprung a leak.  We have found that these pipes are failing and leaking due to poor construction practices and the use of inferior materials; when they were installed 50 years ago.  During the drought in 2014, the District set on a course to replace all 2000 of these service pipes due to their rate of failure.

At a cost of $3,000 to $4,000 each, the District applied for state grant money to replace the service pipes.  LDPCSD was awarded $1 million in grant funding, which was enough to complete replacement of approximately 200 of the pipes.  Since 2015, we have replaced approximately 80 of the services as we identified leaks in them.  Last month, the District awarded a contract to Sierra Communications and Construction of Cathey’s Valley for the replacement of an additional 120 service lines over the next four months starting in early February, weather permitting.  The purpose of this page is to keep you informed on the progress of the project, and provide affected properties with advance notice of when their water may need to be shut off temporarily when the contractor switches over to the new service pipe.

We apologize in advance for any inconvenience due to temporary water shutdowns; which will typically last less than a few hours.  Streets may also be temporarily closed for safety, and there may be short traffic delays in the area of work.  Keep an eye on this site, or you can Like us on Facebook and turn on notifications to receive project updates.  The affected addresses, located only in in Mariposa County are listed in the attachments below.  The order of work has not yet been determined, but please stay tuned!
