February 25, 2019 - In our gardens, there are various ways of increasing the length of the crop harvest. One of those ways is succession planting. It is simply the planning and planting of varieties that will mature in a succession over a longer period of time. The goal is to extend your harvest by staggering plantings of crops or planting varieties with staggered maturing dates.

The UC Master Gardeners of Mariposa County re offering a FREE “Succession Planting” workshop on Saturday, March 23 from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. The workshop will be held at the Greeley Hill Community Center at 10332 Fiske Rd., Coulterville, CA. 95311.  UC Master Gardener, Betty Massey will be covering spring gardening vs. fall gardening, staggering your planting to lengthen your harvest, and the importance of soil temperature.  There will be an instructional time followed by hands-on practice, so bring a layout of your garden area and have an idea of what you might want to plant.  UC Master Gardeners will be available to assist each group in using the free planning tools for planning your garden. Please bring a pen or pencil and paper to make notes.

Registration is required for this FREE workshop to reserve your spot, receive handouts, and to be notified of any last-minute changes. Register online at: http://ucanr.edu/survey/survey.cfm?surveynumber=26568 or call (209) 966-2417.
