March 4, 2019 - The National Weather Service Hanford Office reports a Flash Flood Watch is in effect for the Southern Sierra Nevada below 7,000 feet and the Southern Sierra Nevada foothills this morning through Wednesday night.

Very heavy rainfall may lead to excessive runoff causing water levels to rise on area rivers and streams.

Mudslides, rockslides, and debris flow flooding are possible, especially in the vicinity of recently burned areas. Some roads may become impassible or washed out, resulting in road closures.

.Periods of moderate to heavy rain are expected today and tonight.
This additional rainfall will increase the flooding potential over
already saturated soils.

...A FLASH FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT THROUGH LATE TONIGHT...

The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* A portion of central California, including the following areas,
  Mariposa, Madera, Fresno, and Tulare County Foothills.

* Through late tonight

* Periods of heavy rainfall are likely over much of the area today
  into tonight. The combination of rain and rapidly melting snow
  over the higher elevations of the Southern Sierra Nevada will
  increase water runoff, especially at lower elevations. This will
  increase the potential for serious flooding in the Southern
  Sierra Nevada foothills.

* Rising waters can be expected along many rivers and streams
  through Thursday morning, with the possibility of substantial
  flooding in the foothills in addition to mudslides, rockslides,
  and debris flows.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should Flash Flood Warnings be issued.
