March 6, 2019 - The feeling everyone hates is when they are caught red handed. When the spotlight shines upon us and illuminates that which we want hidden. Those moments in our lives that we feel like the Emperor when the boy told them the he was wearing no clothes. You know what I am talking about. To put in classical Christian terms, it is those times. when we feel the deep, deep, stain of indwelling sin.
I had a recent interaction with someone where I caught them red handed and had them dead to rights. I didn’t think anything of it but over the next few days I saw that the person was troubled. The person constantly asked if I thought less of them. With their wrongdoing exposed and out in the open, I was asked whether I would add to the weight of sin that was tied around their neck. The law, guilt of sin, clearly was in full effect. It was at this moment that I reminded the person of the truth of the Gospel.
Please understand reader that is in these moments that the soothing balm of the Gospel of Jesus Christ should be applied. It is in these moments that we should speak on how the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin (1 John 1:7).
Believe it or not, the Christian life is filled with exposing those areas we would like to remain hidden. Exposing the deep, deep indwelling sin and finding comfort in the deep, deep, love of Jesus. The love of Christ whose blood can make the foulest clean and by him we are forgiven.
