March 9,  2019  - The U.S. Census Bureau routinely enters into agreements to receive administrative records from many agencies, including our pending agreement with U.S. Citizen and us census bureau logoImmigration Services, to assist us in our mission to provide quality statistics to the American public.

We are also in discussion with other agencies, including the U.S. Customs and Border Protection and the Department of Homeland Security’s Office of Immigration Statistics to acquire Arrival and Departure Information System (ADIS) data to fulfill our mission.

By law, the Census Bureau does not return any records to the Department of Homeland Security or any of its components, including Immigration and Customs Enforcement. When the Census Bureau receives the records, they are stripped of any personal identifiable information and are used for statistical purposes only and are strictly protected under Title 13.

Although, the Census Bureau has not received these data in the past, we have routine data sharing agreements with many federal and state agencies, such as the Social Security Administration, Internal Revenue Service, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Responses to all Census Bureau surveys are safe, secure and protected by law. Under Title 13, all census responses can only be used to produce statistics. Our goal is a complete and accurate 2020 Census. Unlike previous censuses, the Census Bureau designed the 2020 Census to use existing data to streamline operations and save taxpayer money.
