Pastors Corner 200

March 21, 2019 - What grabs your attention? Is it just one thing? I imagine that if you’re like me there are several attention grabbers that are all competing for the limited amount of time you have in the day. Expanding on that, there are not just activities or hobbies that distract us but different ideologies, theologies, and the like that take our focus far more than we know.

We can sometimes act like kids in a candy shop, there are so many different options to get our sugar fix. It is here that the Christian must recognize these distractions and how they may cause us to lose focus on the cornerstone of our faith which is Christ.

Elder Wynter Sturtevant

In Colossians 3:1-2 we read, “If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.  Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.” As believers we recognize and can draw comfort from that which is the center of our faith. That is a far more meaningful grace saturated message compared to a message that seems to be more concerned about rock music than anything else (that is my example, but you can use your own.)

When we’re distracted, when we think we have strayed so far off the path that can not comeback, we are to set our renewed minds on the risen savior who is Jesus Christ. That is the good news message that must be proclaimed to those without faith and those with it. A message of salvation as well as assurance. We can have hobbies and we can have attention grabbers. We can grab some candy. In all things though, may we take comfort in and keep our minds on Christ and what he has done for us. Set your mind on the truth that through Christ you are forgiven.
